At iMMC, sustainability is not a slogan — it’s our daily scientific reality.
Every day this week, discover one of our researcher whose research drives real change toward a sustainable future.

Can industry break free from fossil fuels — and still stay competitive?

Transitioning away from fossil energy is both technically and financially challenging — especially for high-grade heat production in factories.

Within Francesco Contino's team, Mattéo Hauglustaine explores Carnot batteries: innovative systems that store energy and deliver heat, cooling, and power on demand.

By smartly coupling electricity and heat production with on-site storage, these systems help industries decarbonize their processes while cutting energy costs, boosting flexibility, and building resilience against volatile demand.

“Energy storage isn’t just about keeping power — it’s about empowering factories to run fossil-free and future-ready.”
