Joint supervision
fial | Louvain-la-Neuve
The joint doctoral programme allows two universities to simultaneously deliver the degree of doctor on the basis of the same research work, in compliance with the scientific and academic requirements of both universities.
A co-supervision agreement should ideally be established when the application is made for admission to the doctorate. The objective is to define the practical aspects of the organisation of the joint degree programme, in accordance with the doctoral regulations of both universities.
In practice, to establish a joint doctoral programme (with joint degree) the following are required:
- admission and enrollment in the postgraduate program at both universities
- a supervisory panel which includes both promoters;
- doctoral training activities that can be validated in each university
- a research theme that will lead to the writing of a unique thesis manuscript
- at least 25% of the research time spent within a research team in each of the institutions
- the same final thesis tests common to both universities
- a single doctoral jury which will award a doctorate from both universities
To process a joint doctoral programme application file, the following are necessary: - complete and return the opening application form to your PhD manager
- wtith the assistance of your two supervisors, draft a co-supervision agreement either starting from the UCLouvain model or using the model of the other university but ensuring to include specific paragraphs from the UCLouvain model.
You must go through the same procedure with the other university.
