Alena Sander

Alena Sander completed her PhD at UCLouvain in 2021. She was an ARC scholarship holder in the project "Resistance to international prescriptions and injunctions in Africa and the Middle East today" between 2016 and 2021. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Media and COmmunication Sciences from the University of Mannheim (Germany), and a Master's degree in Development Studies and Demography from UCLouvain. Before coming to Louvain-la-Neuve, she gained four years of professional experience in the field of the international development cooperation.

Alena Sander's doctoral research deals with the resistance of Jordanian women's rights organizations to a development discourse which produces and re-produces inequalities between the Global Norths and the Global Souths. In general, she is interested in qualitative feminist research, feminist theories, post-development and post-colonialism, resistance, women's rights and the international development cooperation.
