Professor Heping Sun (Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics of the Academy of Sciences, Wuhan, China) is appointed on 22 November as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This is the culmination of the cooperation developed between China and the ASTR Department between 1980 and 2000 under the impetus of Professor Melchior. Indeed Sun enrolled at the UCL in 1991, where he obtained his DEA and defended his thesis (1996).
In August 1980 he joined the Seismological Research Institute of China Seismological Bureau, he remained at there until October 1991. In January 1997 he became a researcher at the Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics，Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), where he was promoted to become deputy director in December 2000 and director in February 2005.
