Science Advances - Combining spintronics and thermoelectricity in 3D nanowire networks


Spin-related effects in thermoelectricity offer novel promising applications for the harvesting of thermal energy. With this perspective, coupling heat-driven transport with spintronics is at the heart of the rapidly emerging field of spin caloritronics.
In a recent publication in Science Advances*, Tristan da Câmara Santa Clara Gomes, Flavio Abreu Araujo and Luc Piraux at BSMA-IMCN have fabricated macroscopic-scale spin caloritronic devices made of 3D multilayered CoNi/Cu nanowire networks. The flexible and shapeable thermoelectric films constitute promising candidates for heat management applications and overcome the insufficient power generation capability exhibited by the custom-patterned nanoscale magnetic structures reported previously.
