Pyrolysis & gasification of plastic waste

By Margaux Benoit (iMMC / IMAP)

For a long time, wastes were just intended for landfill. However, the plastic waste takes too much time to degrade and its throughput has become too high. As it is actually a valuable chemical, different plastic waste management options seem to emerge. In that regard pyrolysis and gasification of plastic wastes will be presented. While pyrolysis cracks the long polymer chains, gasification uses its outlet to produce syngas. Their implementation in a project aiming at producing olefins is also going to be discussed.
