Six months pedagogical leave of Professor Hervé Capart (Taiwan University) in the civil engineering team

"On sabbatical leave from National Taiwan University, I had the opportunity last semester to revisit for a few months the EPLouvain GCE pole, to join the teaching teams of two student design projects: Project P1 in the freshman year (flying propeller and its launcher), and the Civil engineering capstone project (a footbridge for Louvain-la-Neuve). A chance for me to appreciate the great advances made at UCLouvain in developing active learning, and to draw inspiration for Taiwan where my colleagues and I are trying to adapt this approach to teaching. After one semester at the Sainte-Barbe and Vinci building, on both the carpet and testing hall sides, I think I can reveal some of the secrets of teaching success at EPLouvain: coach students to explore in autonomous teams, guided by highly motivated student tutors, passionate teachers, and attentive laboratory staff. The idea seems to be to throw students out of the airplane, but with a good parachute! Thank you to all for the wonderful hospitality."
