Main project: The Impact of the Integration of Electrofuels in the Belgian Energy System on the Electric Power System Dynamics Funding: SPF Economie Supervisor(s): Emmanuel De Jaeger
The goal of this thesis will be to study the dynamics and the stability of the future electrical power system of Belgium, because of penetration of renewables. Several scenarios regarding the evolution of the power grid will be studied. There will be specific attention for the impact of integrating power-to-fuel and fuel-to-power units into the grid, both centralized and decentralized, as well as the impact of reduced grid inertia and reactive power production on frequency and voltage control. For this, the transmission and distribution grid models will be developed, with a focus on the dynamic behavior of quasi-autonomous areas. Finally, based on these models, an integrated control will be developed that ensures the stability of the future grid.
