Biomedical engineering

Advanced technologies are being exploited in many ways to better understand and treat human health.

Chemical engineering

Our institute is committed to improving fundamental knowledge in the field of process engineering, with applications in effluent treatment, process optimization, hydrogen and syngas production, improvement of materials properties,

Civil and environmental engineering

Research in civil and environmental engineering addresses the close links between nature and the built environment.

Computational science

We have a strong interest in predicting behavior of solids and fluids, and their interactions, with the help of new mathematical modeling and computer simulation techniques.

Dynamical and electromechanical engineering

Our institute leads research projects to design machines and devices that do not yet exist.

Energy

Smart management of energy resources is essential for the sustainability of tomorrow.

Fluid mechanics

Our institute is active in research projects involving advanced numerical simulations for aerodynamics, turbulent and vortical flows, granular flows and reactive flows in porous and granular media.

Processing and characterisation of materials

The development of new materials with extended performance is essential to enhance safety, decrease weight, or provide new functionalities (thermoelectric, healing, …) is central in several of our research projects.

Solid mechanics

Our research projects in the field of solid mechanics focus on the modeling and characterization of composite materials, as well as on fundamental research on damage mechanics.
