At a congress in Krakow on 10 October, Professor Bernard Gallez, CDR and Télévie promoter UCLouvain was awarded the 2022 IES Silver Medal in Biology / Medicine.
This is a triennial award given for pioneering contributions in the field of applications of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) in biology and medicine.
His preclinical research has led to a better understanding of the characteristics of the tumour microenvironment that determine tumour aggressiveness, to inform the choice of treatments and to develop imaging biomarkers to monitor response to treatment.
This is the first time that this prize has been awarded to a European.
