On September 1, 2019, during the Annual Congress of ESPEN in Krakow (Poland), Nathalie Delzenne (Metabolism and Nutrition Research Group, Louvain Drug Research Institute, Uclouvain), was awarded the ESPEN Cuthbertson Lecture* for her research work leading to new challenges in nutrition and health. The discoveries of her research group highlight the importance of gut microbiota to target obesity, cardio-metabolic diseases and behavioral disorders, paving the way to new therapeutic opportunities using nutritional approaches.
*The Cuthbertson Lecture is awarded each year since 1979 by the ESPEN (European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism) to an outstanding scientist in recognition to his/her contribution to the field of Nutrition. Sir David Cuthbertson made an immense contribution across the field of nutrition, but especially in his studies on metabolism after trauma and in severe illness. He is one of the founding honorary members of ESPEN.
