Doctoral Workshop by Prof. dr. Jannine Williams from QUT, Australia

“Building an international academic career: tips and tricks"

Wednesday 11th of December: workshop for PhD students and early career academics (12.00-14.00, with sandwich lunch, registration is required)

During this two hour workshop, we will explore current trends in academic careers in management. The focus will go out to important characteristics that university recruiters look for in future employees. One such aspect is international mobility. Mobility across borders has become an important cornerstone practice in establishing an academic future. This internationalization of one’s career can take the form of international relocation, building international research networks, or international fellowships. In the workshop we will identify insights from the latest scientific literature on academic careers in management and apply these to workshop participants’ own career. We will also review performance indicators used to assess academic value and potential (such as the H-index), and reflect on how social websites (such as Academia, Research portal, …) can boost one’s career.

Jannine Williams is Lecturer in Human Resource Management at QUT, Australia.
