KSG Research Award at G-FORUM 2018 for Julie HERMANS

"SME innovativeness in a dynamic environment: Is there any value in combining causation and effectuation?" by Julie Hermans (UCLouvain/LouRIM), Marcus Dejardin (UCLouvain & UNamur), Johanna Vanderstraeten (UAntwerp) & Arjen van Witteloostuijn (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam & Antwerp Business School) has been awarded the KSG Entrepreneurship Research Award 2018 at the 22nd G-Forum, Annual Interdisciplinary Conference on Entrepreneurship, Innovation and SMEs in Stuttgart.

This research examines the different decision-making logics that entrepreneurs adopt when developing new products in dynamic environments. It shows that causation (a planning-based logic) leads to more innovativeness in stable and neutral environments, especially when combined with so-called “effectuation” (a contingency-based logic). However, these effects weaken in dynamic environments. Rather than turning SMEs into engines of possibility, effectual tactics might sustain rigidities that, in turn, hinder innovativeness.

L’article de conférence "SME innovativeness in a dynamic environment: Is there any value in combining causation and effectuation?"
