As it becomes more and more threatening, climate change is increasingly conceptualized in terms of security. Security and defense organizations around the world have started incorporating climate change in their strategic thinking, in a movement described as a “securitization” of climate change issues. I argue that the ethical implications of the securitization of climate issues are ambiguous. Framing climate change in terms of security may further climate justice but it may also condone some serious injustices.
