Sofia Laine will deliver a talk at the SMAG/CriDIS “Approaching Planetary Youth Research” on Wednesday March the 1st, 12h45-14h30, Salle du CriDIS, Leclercq B334.

Abstract: The ongoing climate emergency, era of pandemics, and world political turmoil demand solutions to the dilemmas of sustainable development and the well-being of all living beings and the planet. There is no future for the next generations without sustainable living on Earth. This keynote presents a new concept for youth research: planetary youth research. In this historical era, three global crises - the climate emergency, the Covid-19, and world political turbulence (e.g. the Russian war in Ukraine) - are intertwined, affecting young people’s physical and mental health, education, transition to the labor market, employment, mobility, and family relations. This keynote presents a global ethical framework for academic and applied youth research in an age in which the challenge is to jointly manage the planet and its limited resources and transform and strengthen young people’s agency and their relationships with nature, and resources, now and in the future.
