Postdoctoral position at UCLouvain, Belgium

Louvain-La-Neuve

The Psychological Sciences Research Institute (IPSY) at UCLouvain (Belgium) seeks a postdoctoral researcher interested in the psychological consequences of negative interest rates (NIR), which is effectively having people pay for letting their money in their accounts. Researchers with a PhD in psychology (by June 2019) and with an interest in investigating effects of loss- and insecurity-prone environments are strongly encouraged to apply. A background in economics is welcomed but not required.
The successful candidate will work with the principal grant holder, Professor Olivier Corneille, as well as Professor Karl-Andrew Woltin, and be responsible for developing and designing experimental and/or field studies to examine the influence of NIR on psychological processes. The scope and specific content of the project is deliberately left broad to allow the successful candidate to shape this project in line with their expertise. The position is thus an ideal opportunity for candidates with a high degree of initiative, independence and self-motivation, who are interested in further developing their career and marking a relatively new research field.

As a postdoctoral research on this project you will:
• Be responsible for experiment and survey design, data collection and analysis
• Contribute to securing ethics approval for all studies
• Write up research for publication and disseminate findings via conference presentations at relevant international conferences
• Coordinate potential translations of study materials

To be successful in this role you will have:
• A doctoral qualification in psychology
• Experience in conducting psychological research
• Excellent project management skills, strong intrinsic motivation, and perseverance in the face of adversity
• Experience of independently using statistical packages such as R, Mplus, SPSS, Stata, and/or others to conduct analyses including multi-level analyses
• Familiarity with relevant research literature
• Excellent English language skills (French language skills are not required, but desirable)

Conditions and application:
The position is for one year, with the possibility of obtaining (provided successful application) funding for a further two years and does not entail any teaching duties.
Applicants are asked to send a detailed CV, statement of research, up to 2 relevant research papers, and up to 3 reference letters – ideally in one PDF document – to oliver.corneille@uclouvain.be.
If you require further information about the application or the application process, please contact Professor Olivier Corneille.
Review of applications begins in March, and continues until the position is filled.
