Structures & Technologies LAB is a research unit initiated by Denis Zastavni within the Faculty of Architecture, Architectural Engineering and Urbanism [LOCI] at UCLouvain in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. It is linked to the training of architectural engineers at UCL and brings the activities of the engineer and the architect together in an attempt at integration.
The unit undertakes research in the domain of structural design and its methods – particularly involving concrete and wood – as well as the procedures and tools used for analysing masonry structures, the application of graphical and geometrical methods and/or methods that are analogous to contemporary engineering, the rules of good practice for construction in wood and ongoing study of the work of the Swiss engineer Robert Maillart.
