Denis Duez is Prof. of Political Science, former President of the Institute for European Studies (IES) and coordinator of the EUNMUTE JMO Centre of Excellence. He has been teaching for more than 20 years, at bachelor and master levels, courses on international relations, European integration, the European Union political system, Europeanisation processes, political regimes and methodology of research in political science. He currently teaches annually over 150 hours, mostly in the field of European studies. His research focuses on European internal security policies and the management of the EU’s external borders. He analyses border controls and the Schengen Area from the perspective of the processes of (de)regulation and (de)legitimisation of mobility. His research is published in social sciences journals, such as Droit & Société, the Journal of European Integration, European Foreign Affairs Review, European Security and Politique européenne. He has considerable experience serving as an editor of the Bruylant “Idées d’Europe” Series, and co-editor of seven edited volumes or special issue, including Les frontières de la communauté. Faire, défaire et penser les frontières (2016), Digital/sovereignty and European security integration (2022) and Standing Up for the Voiceless? Exploring the EU’s Capacity for Rights Protection (forthcoming). He has been a visiting scholar/professor at a range of institutions. He was European Studies Centre Visiting Fellow at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford (2007-2008) and visiting professor at the Toulouse’s Institut d’études politiques (IEP) (2016-2018), at Université d’Artois (2018-2020) and at Université de Nantes (2018-2020). He has supervised 5 PhDs and 4 post-doctorate projects (including two Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow).
