Contenu
This teaching unit focuses on the contemporary urban project, examining both its evolution and its ecologies — the systems of relations, human and non-human — that, over time, have emerged as the material of city-making. Through lectures on theories, methods, and projects, as well as the application of concrete case studies, students will acquire and apply tools, bodies of knowledge, and techniques specific to projects centered on open space, from the small to the large scale. The course is structured in three parts: (a) concepts. This part addresses the evolution of the urban project as a project of “the space between things,” where built form is defined through the conception of voids, their uses, and their surfaces. Through the analysis of manifesto projects and analytical exercises, students will be guided toward a diagrammatic reading of projects and space; (b) ecologies. This part introduces the systems — natural or artificial — with which the urban project inevitably engages, thereby modifying their course and infrastructures. Students will be confronted with a type of project not only aware of ecological systems (water, soil, air, fauna, flora), but also capable of constructing spaces of cohabitation rather than appropriation; (c) spaces. This part addresses the reading of the different layers of the project — materials, surfaces, techniques — whose selection connects the local scale with broader systems and ecologies.
Méthodes d'enseignement
The course combines lectures — including contributions from guest speakers — with workshop sessions, group discussions, and collective reviews. Students will be guided in the completion of a group project experimenting with an urban design approach capable of addressing the territorial scale.
