Evaluation methods

The assessment will be in three parts, each one of them worth 1/3 of the final grade:
-    A written exam during the examination session of January, for which the student will respond to questions on the texts read for the exercise sessions (1/3).
-     An oral presentation undertaken by the student during the formal lectures of the second 4-months period. The assessment guidelines for this task will be specified on the class platform (1/3).
-     An oral exam during the examination session of June, for which the students must non only summarize and comment upon the texts of the syllabus, but also show that he knows the subjects covered by the formal lectures. The students must also be aware of the key biographical and bibliographical information concerning the authors discussed on the course, based upon the content of the course and the practical sessions as well as the additional reading which they will have done using the library's reference works. The students will undertake independent research into the key biographical and bibliographical information concerning the authors dealt with on the course (1/3).

Teaching methods

The course is in the form of lectures: this is a deliberate choice to give students experience of a form of teaching they will encounter in Italy on an Erasmus exchange.
The practical sessions deal with the preparation of a choice of texts from a linguistic point of view. These texts will be covered in class and will require students to make active use of analytical procedures introduced in LROM1753.

Content

The students will take a broad look at Italian literature from the Middle Ages until the 18th century.

The students will become familiar with the linguistic features of Medieval and Renaissance Italian in the practical sessions and will be able to discuss the elements relevant to the course (both the theoretical and practical sides) in an oral presentation.

Using the tools available from the library and online, the students will undertake independent research into the key biographical and bibliographical information concerning the authors discussed on the course.
