Prerequisites
Students must have followed a program of at least 2 hours a week during the last two years at secondary school or having at least A1 level of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" (European Council).
Main themes
The course is structured around different subjects (e.g. hobbies, travel, home, advertisement, ...) related to the general (non-specific) domain.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Reading comprehension : read short and simple texts; find a piece of information in everyday documents, as well as understand simple personal letters.
 
2 Listening comprehension : grasp the main point of simple and clear messages.
 
3 Speaking skills (individually and interactively) : talk in simple language about him/herself, his/her family, other people, close environment and living conditions and communicate in simple and usual tasks for which only simple and direct exchange of information is needed.
 
4 Writing skills : write a short postcard, a menu, a simple ad slogan, a day's schedule and write down personal information in a questionnaire (nationality, address, age, ...).

5 Code : understand and use the basic vocabulary (1500 to 2000 words) and structures of German.
 
The objective of this elementary course is A2 level of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" (European Council).
 
Content
Revision, reinforcement and expansion (in context) of the basic vocabulary and grammar, as well as training of receptive and productive language skills. The acquisition is based on authentic documents (reading and listening comprehension).
Basic vocabulary and structures are practiced, reinforced and expanded via written and oral exercises (role-plays, interviews, conversations in small groups of 2 or 4, ...).
Teaching methods
  • Courses in groups of max. 30 students (2* 1hour /week).
  • The teacher is available during office hours and can be contacted by e-mail.
  • The written exam will take place in week 14
  • The class is divided into two sections: Theory and Practice.
Evaluation methods
Several marks come into account for the final assessment: 
1) Continuous assessment covers all the activities organised during the course (30%)
2) Decembre exam (70%)
No credits will be allocated for this remediation course!
Students who failed the LALLE1130 Decembre test can resit the exam  during their LALLE1230 May/June exam.
 
Second/third written exam covers everything and continuous assessment will not be taken into account. Only the mark of the exam will be taken into account.
Other information
The students of the first year ESPO will first have to inform the secretariat of their faculty about their choice of second language. They will then have access to a placement test.
In function of the marks they will obtain, different possibilities of remediation will be recommended if necessary. Among these possibilities the course LALLE 1130 will be offered.
Those who will choose to attend this course have to know that no credits will be allocated for this remediation course (cf. "Décret Bologne" of the French Community of Belgium).
