Main themes

The courses will aim to provide a solid knowledge base of the main types of disabilities and the psychological and family experience in each context for which physiotherapy treatment is useful.
The main themes covered will be:

• Introduction, terminology, announcement of disability
• Autism spectrum disorders
• Attachment disorders and behavioral disorders Hearing impairments
• Visual impairments
• Multiple disabilities, the psychological characteristics of children and adults with motor disabilities.
• The mental health of adults with disabilities
• Life quality Motivational interviewing

Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :
1	At the end of this teaching entity, the student will have a general knowledge of the main types of disabilities that they are likely to encounter in their professional work. He will be familiar with the broad families of deficiencies as well as the experiences and developmental specificities of disabled people. They will also be made aware of the importance of listening (to oneself and to others).

Content

The “Psychology and Disability” course will provide a solid knowledge base of the main types of disabilities and the psychological and family experience in each context for which physiotherapy treatment is useful.
The main themes covered will be the definitions of "disability", the different types of deficiencies, the developmental specificities of people with autism, an attachment and behavioral disorder, a sensory deficiency or a multiple disability. , relationships between disabled and able-bodied people, individual and family experience in the event of disability, experience as a caregiver, motivational interviewing.
The method used is a lecture course accompanied by video illustrations and patient testimonials also projected to illustrate the theoretical course.

Teaching methods

Lecture in French with slide support. Participation in the course is strongly recommended but not obligatory. The student who is absent from the course is required to find out about the content and the oral or written instructions given during the course.
The course is mainly given face-to-face in an audience (except in cases of force majeure or special circumstances requiring the option of distance learning).

Evaluation methods

Assessment: Written exam (MCQ). The exam is in French and accounts for 100% of the final grade.
The exam takes place in person (in an audience). The examination methods (face-to-face or remote, oral or written) are subject to change in the event of force majeure (see CoVid-19 crisis)
The assessment is done via a written exam with multiple choice questions (MCQ) and possibly short answer questions. There is no negative point.
Grades with decimals will be rounded down to the nearest unit.
