The student will learn to translate socio-political-economic documents of a medium to high level of difficulty, or even technical-scientific popularisation, into correct French. They will be prepared for the Master's years, when translations become more and more specialised and more and more complex. The student will be encouraged to acquire and develop the widest possible general knowledge. The student is encouraged to develop a critical mind with regard to the original text written in Arabic; to highlight the errors commonly made in the student's command of French (concordance of tenses, grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, etc.) as well as to the errors of translation itself (syntax, sentence structure, calque effect, counter-meanings, false meanings, nonsense, omissions). The student is able to justify the choice of words used and to give coherent explanations for the choice of his/her translation. |
