At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- understand authentic B2-level (Common European Framework of Reference) oral and written texts that deal with current affairs, everyday life and socio-cultural aspects of English- speaking countries
- answer comprehension questions about the texts covered
- present/comment on/summarize the information in the texts
- express their opinion (orally and in writing) about the topics dealt with in the texts
- understand and use a wide range of vocabulary connected with the topics dealt with
 
Content
The course centres around authentic written and audio-visual documents (newspapers, the Internet, radio and television broadcasts, etc.) which will also help students explore various socio-cultural aspects of English-speaking countries and make them familiar with a range of registers and varieties of English.
Students will develop their proficiency in English through a series of oral and written communicative/practical exercises. They are required to take an active part in the various exercises in class (conversation, role plays, debates, short prepared presentations, and prepared oral or written reports about texts). Special emphasis will be placed on accuracy and pronunciation.
Teaching methods
Throughout the year, students are expected to take part in a number of additional study activities outside classes:
- listening and reading comprehension exercises
- preparing short presentations and oral or written reports about texts
- regularly studying the vocabulary included in Vocabulary.com (more information later)
Evaluation methods
First semester (50%): Written exam (50%) and writing assignments (50%) 
Second semester (50%): Oral exam (50%), oral presentation (25%) and writing assignments (25%) 
To pass the course, students are required to pass both the continuous assessment and the examination section.
Other information
The use of AI is not allowed during exams or in-class activities. For writing assignments, AI tools are strictly prohibited unless  specifically mentioned by the teacher. It is important that you develop your own writing skills and express your ideas independently. However, for oral presentations, you are free to use AI tools to help you prepare and practice.
