The general aim of this course is for students to acquire the ability to theorise the legal phenomenon. At the end of this course, students should - understand the specificity and relevance of legal theory ; - master the theses relating to the issues studied ; - have developed a critical aptitude towards the law as it is constructed and implemented ; - be able to build a theoretical development on various aspects of the legal phenomenon. |

Content
The course involves a reflection on contemporary law or, more precisely, a theorisation, in the sense of problematisation, of the methods and foundations of law, highlighting the existing more or less modern, critical, and/or interdisciplinary perspectives.
The study will include the issue of the position of legal theory in the face of the major challenges of our century, including the globalization of societal functioning, the development of artificial intelligence, and climate change.
Aiming to develop both critical skills and knowledge of the main schools of tought and concepts in legal theory, this course builds on the knowledge acquired in courses on positive law, philosophy, and the humanities.

The course is given ex cathedra, in a large classroom.
Reference material will be available on moodle, but note-taking is strongly recommended.

Evaluation methods
Written exam aimed at appraising both the students’ knowledge and his/her ability to carry out a critical reflection.
Other information
As the course is intended for both regular and evening audiences, it takes place at the end of the day.
