Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Reading comprehension: B2 Level
  • read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems in which writers adopt particular attitudes or viewpoints
  • understand an article in his field
  • understand the progress of a thought
 
2 Listening comprehension: B2 level
  • understand and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar
  • understand most TV news and current affairs programmes
 
3 Speaking skills: B2 level
  • interact with a degree of fluency an spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible
  • take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining his views
 
4 Writing skills: B1 level
  • write simple connected texts on topics which are familiar or of personal interest
  • bring a problem to the table, develop an opinion and make clear and precise requests
 
N.B. The indicated levels refer to the Common European Framework for Languages.
 
Teaching methods
The course is based on different themes.  Learning is contextualised by didactic and/or authentic documents (reading and listening comprehension).  Vocabulary and basic structures are trained, consolidated and extended through written and oral exercises (drills, roleplays, interviews, conversations in small groups,...). 
In speaking skills, the focus is on communication rather than on correction, however phonetical correction will be stressed. An interactive and cultural approach is favoured.
Modality of teaching during the pandemic
For this course, classroom teaching is favoured, but this modality could change dependingon the evoluation of the pandemic.  Under the red code, online teaching will be the rule.
Evaluation methods
Different marks are taken into account in the final assessment (see course notes):
  1. continuous assessment
  2. written and oral exams (May/June)

Other information
This partim B being the second part of the main course LALLE1500, the student will have to learn the material from partim A on his own, in order to be able to take the exam that will cover the whole material of the course.
