Prerequisites
Having reached the 2nd candidature level in Germanic languages and literatures.
Main themes
  • Students should have full command of the functions of language, and of simple and complex grammatical structures, they should use a wide range of vocabulary (both general and specific);
  • Pronunciation and intonation must not impede spontaneous and easy communication;
  • Particular focus will be put on "classroom language ".
  • The students will take part in a variety of activities enabling them to practice and improve their communication skills and their command of the (mainly spoken) language;
  • A few examples of situations or activities : debates and discussions, role plays, short lectures;
  • Self-study of grammar and vocabulary and of “classroom language”.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Oral production
  • to express him/herself in a adequate way, in formal and abstract situations (talk, presentation of report, spontaneous reactions etc.), with native speakers and on the basis of written and/or sound documents, on subjects of general, personnel and specific (world of teaching) interest.
    The phonetic correction reaches a high level, even if it can be noticed that the student is not a native speaker.
Listening comprehension:
  • Having no difficulty in understanding any kind of spoken language, whether live or broadcast, even when delivered at fast native speed, provided the student is given some time to get familiar with the accent.
Reading comprehension:
  • Being able to autonomously understand factual texts as well as specialized articles pertaining to the field of teaching and education.
C2 Level of the “CEFR” for listening and reading comprehension, C1 level of the “CEFR” for the oral expression
 
Content
Students will take part in a variety of activities enabling them to practice and improve their communication skills and command of the (mainly in oral situations) language:
  • debates and discussions,
  • role plays,
  • short presentations,
  • lessons taught,
  • self-study of grammar and vocabulary and of "classroom language".
Before each activity students will receive a range of tools and resources which will enable them to be fully efficient in the activities organized.
Feedback will be given and remedial exercises may be suggested.

Evaluation methods
Oral exam, evaluating the skills, the vocabulary and the grammar.
