Main themes
This learning unit deals with the construction of the complex sentence in present-day standard Spanish, paying attention to the pronominal paradigm, verbal morphology and syntax.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Use the correct pronominal and verbal forms at sentence level and construct simple and complex sentences in current standard Spanish.

2 Explain the choice of a verb form or syntactic structure in an authentic text (a corpus) using the appropriate grammatical and linguistic terminology. To achieve this aim, the student will be able to analyse the sentence and its constituents from a morphosyntactic point of view (identify the different categories of words, phrases, syntactic functions, main and subordinate clauses and connectors) and identify the argument structure and aspect of the predicate.

3 Use the main corpora of the Spanish language to rely on a trustworthy empirical analysis with a view to improving their knowledge of Spanish and with a view to the linguistic analysis of the phenomena covered in the course.

Consequently, this course brings together aims related to normative grammar (aim 1), descriptive grammar (aim 2) and linguistic methodology (aim 3).
