Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 To develop interactive competence in English at the level of " proficient user " in the four skills (equivalent to the C1/C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
By the end of the course, students should be able to :
- understand complex academic texts (implied meanings).
- interact efficiently in conversations in his social, professional and academic life.
- speak and/or write in clear, well-structured academic language. follow complex presentations/talks.
 
Content
Academic English is a specific genre with its own methodological, stylistic and linguistic characteristics. In this course, you will learn to use the rhetorical functions typical of academic English. We will also look at the different stages in the scientific research process, from the analysis and selection of sources to the development of arguments (be it orally or in writing).
Teaching methods
Volume 1 of the course (15 h) will cover the theoretical aspects inherent in the oral and written argumentation of scientific work. Please note that some of these hours may be carried out in the form of flipped classrooms.
Volume 2 of the course (22h30) will focus on practical applications of elements covered in volume 1.
Evaluation methods
Written assignment (30%) - please refer to guidelines posted on the course platform
Exercises (20%) - please refer to guidelines posted on the course platform
Oral exam (50%) - please refer to guidelines posted on the course platform
The final grade for the course is the weighted average of the 3 parts, regardless of the session.
