Content
Course content varies from year to year. It focuses on a theme specific to the period concerned: composer(s), performer(s) or other figure(s) of the musical world of the period, genre(s) specific to the period, geographical era(s) or particular epoch(s) of the 19th and 20th centuries, aesthetic issue(s) and socio-cultural practice(s) relating to the music of the period.
The chosen theme is approached in the richness and complexity of its dimensions and the historical context in which it unfolds. A multidisciplinary perspective is favored, as is, where appropriate, a concern to open up the chosen theme to contemporary and societal issues that may underlie it. Part of the course is devoted to the study of musical extracts related to the theme, with or without scores.
