Content
The ecclesiological research of Yves Congar, o.p. (1904-1995)
In 2025, it will be 30 years since Yves Congar passed away. Few theologians have left their mark on twentieth-century ecclesiological research as he did. His masterly work is commendable both for the themes he tackled, which were often new at the time (Catholic "ecumenism", the mystery of the Church, reform in the Church, theology of the laity, the relationship between Christology, pneumatology and ecclesiology, the Church's relationship with history and the world, etc.), and for his working method (listening to concrete life, interpreting it theologically, supported by an impressive documentary mastery of ecclesial tradition, starting with the Scriptures). In an age of identity-based, fundamentalist and fundamentalist tendencies, we urgently need to be re-informed by Congar's reflections, particularly on "true and false reform", "Tradition and traditions", and the role of the Holy Spirit in the Church.
