The conditions for the production of scientific knowledge, research postures in communication, bibliographical and documentary resources in communication, research approaches in communication, the state of the art in scientific literature on an initial question, research methods and tools in communication.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • understand the specific features of a research approach and the conditions for producing scientific knowledge;
  • carry out an in-depth critical reading of texts in information and communication sciences;
  • carry out specialised bibliographical and documentary research using specialised platforms and databases;
  • use bibliographic and documentary resources with discretion in the context of academic work, respecting the rules and good practice of citation, referencing, non-plagiarism and the use of AI;
  • visualise the main stages of a research process in information and communication sciences ;
  • find their way around the range of main communication research methods and discern their possibilities, limits and ethical issues ;
  • find their way around the different types of IT tools that can be used in communication research;
  • carry out a state-of-the-art review of the scientific literature based on an initial question, and present the results in the form of a written work and an oral defence.
