At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • Describe Global economic history and major economic developments (industrialization, connectivity, inequality, divergence) in general terms;
  • Understand present economic realities, institutions, and challenges thanks to a long economic history perspective.
  • Apply a historical approach to economic and social problems.
 
Content
The core part of the course focuses on the long-term economic history of the world (the exact sub-periods selection is flexible).

The course focuses on the different waves of globalization and the formation of capitalism during past and contemporary periods and their impact on the transformation of human societies (wealth, institutions, …).
