At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :
  1. Master the key concepts and definitions of economic history as well as global history in the early and late modern periods ;
  2. Situate the themes addressed during the course within a historical perspective ;
  3. Summarise, either specifically or across themes, the major milestones of early and late modern economic history.

Content
The course covers the early and late modern periods in order to shed light on the major issues of economic history on a global scale. Organised thematically rather than chronologically, it focusses on the movements of goods and services, populations, and capital. Drawing on case studies from both the Global South and the Global North, it offers a critical approach to economic dynamics. From a historical perspective raising the main economic and social issues, the course examines successively several major themes in a trans‑period framework.
Evaluation methods
The course is assessed through a two‑hour written exam consisting of multiple‑choice questions and open‑ended questions. The use of generative artificial intelligence tools is prohibited.
