At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
| At the end of the "Sign Language - Culture" course, the student will be able to : - Use the vocabulary of level B2 in oral and written expression by mobilising theoretical knowledge (grammatical and linguistic) - Use B2 level vocabulary in typical sign language expression - Summarise readings and news texts - videos of the week. - Understand, orally, communicative situations of everyday life - "problem situations" (carry on a general conversation, describe stories, actions, images, films, ideas or personal opinions, express a point of view, an opinion, a disagreement, in a way that is understandable to the person speaking). - Participate actively in a conversation/debate - Apply the knowledge and skills necessary to integrate the traditions, values and norms of the deaf culture. - Become aware of the psycho-socio-cultural characteristics of the deaf community |

Content
The course will be structured around several sequences related to the daily life of the Deaf community, addressing their obstacles, their natural communication, as well as their cultural specificities, in different regions and at different stages of life (e.g., family life, schooling, professional integration, leisure activities, access to public services).
Language component
The course will focus on:- acquiring and using B2-level vocabulary, in connection with theoretical knowledge (grammar and linguistics);
- practicing an expression consistent with the specific features of sign language (respecting manual and non-manual parameters, use of space and iconicity);
- reading and analyzing texts, articles and current affairs materials (written documents and videos), followed by a restitution and a presentation in LSFB;
- understanding everyday communication situations, including “problematic situations” (holding a general conversation, describing stories, actions, images or films, expressing ideas, opinions or disagreements in a way that is understandable to the interlocutor);
- participating actively in conversations and debates.
Culture component
The course will aim to:- explore the traditions, values and norms of Deaf culture;
- understand and analyze the historical, social and cultural dimensions of the Deaf community;
- develop an awareness of the psycho-socio-cultural characteristics specific to the Deaf community and reflect on their impact in everyday interactions.
Practical exercises
- viewing and analyzing videos, consulting websites, using digital materials (PowerPoints, handouts, multimedia resources).
LSFB exercises
- debates, dialogues, presentations, project reports.
Teaching methods

Throughout the year, a portfolio handed out during the first class will be completed by the student, including their productions, their reflections on the assigned activities, as well as a personal analysis.

Evaluation methods
The intermediate assessment in January counts for 50% of the final grade. It includes:
Attendance is mandatory. Absence from more than one third of the sessions, or the unjustified failure to submit one third of the assignments within the prescribed deadlines, will result in refusal of admission to the examination.
- an oral exam in LSFB (60%), covering the knowledge acquired and a signed production (presentation or guided interaction);
- the portfolio – part 1 (40%), which compiles exercises, visiosign productions, self-analyses, and evidence of progression.
- an oral exam in LSFB (50%), with open questions and a signed production on a defined theme;
- the portfolio – part 2 (50%), which completes the follow-up work and highlights the student’s overall progression.
