At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

The student will be able to:
  • Acquire fundamental knowledge of Hispanic history and cultures.
  • Identify significant historical events, major characters and significant cultural aspects in the Hispanic world.
  • Understand how the concepts of history, culture and identity are closely related.
  • Discuss some of the political and cultural issues related to the Hispanic world.
 
Content
The analysis of pivotal moments in the political, social, economic, and cultural history of the Hispanic world will allow us to explore the complexity of contemporary challenges in Latin America and Spain. By presenting these historical contexts in parallel, the course encourages critical comparison and a deeper understanding of their interrelations. This course lays the groundwork for subsequent courses in literary analysis.

  • Guided discussions and practical exercises
The primary language of instruction is Spanish; however, French may be used as a support to facilitate comprehension.
Evaluation methods
1st session: Final evaluation includes continuous assessment — written works, exercises, and oral presentations — (40%) and a final written exam (60%).
2nd session: Final assessment is based entirely on the written exam (100%).
* Unless otherwise specified, the use of generative AI is strictly prohibited for any assessed activity. Its use will be considered fraud under the terms of the RGEE. In the event of suspected fraud, the student must be able to demonstrate orally their knowledge of the content developed in their written work/exercises.
