At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

At the end of the course, students will have an overview of French literature under the Ancien Régime. They will be able to identify and present the literary and aesthetic dynamics at work in this period; comment on the works of the main authors studied in the course; and describe the literary milieu under the Ancien Régime.

Content
This course will provide an overview of the most representative works, authors, and trends of this period. It will show how aesthetics, sensibilities, and the literary field gradually evolved from the mid-16th century (with the rise of the Baroque) to the emergence of Romanticism at the end of the 18th century. The course will aim to place the major works of the period in their context, while also introducing lesser-known or less-studied texts and authors, particularly in the field of poetry.
Teaching methods
Lectures; personal reading, some of which must be presented during the assessment.
Evaluation methods
Oral exam.
For the preparation of written work or visual aids for the oral presentation, any use of generative AI other than that explicitly authorized in the course instructions is prohibited and will be considered cheating under the terms of the RGEE. In the event of suspected cheating, the instructor may summon the student. In any case, the student must be able to demonstrate oral mastery of the content developed in their written work. In this case, failure in either of the two assessments is decisive (failure in the written or oral assessment results in failure of the entire assessment).
