This course provides experiential learning (Faire penser & penser le faire) focused on designing and constructing a sustainable, empirical building element.
Constructions simples emphasizes the use of eco-responsible materials and techniques accessible to non-specialists, promoting an inclusive approach to architecture. The architect’s design tools acquire new meaning when applied to full-scale realizations.
The course fosters experimentation while requiring students to develop the organizational and collaborative mechanisms essential to the architectural profession.

Specific Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Experiment the logic of designing and building an architectural element,
  • Investigate the economy of materials and means in the design process of an architectural element,
  • Propose a logical construction strategy for an architectural element that effectively meets human needs,
  • Explain how materials behave in relation to their environment, implementation and use,
  • Use the architect’s specific design tools to produce the documents required for the execution of an architectural element,
  • Discuss the influence of ecological issues on the design and execution of architectural elements,
  • Propose and use different modes of collaboration and organization in the design and realization of an architectural element.
