Main themes
The aim of this course is to prepare student architects to take on their responsibilities within the legal and ethical frameworks governing architectural practice. It enables students to understand the scope of their architectural mission and to address the various professional responsibilities they may encounter.
By examining the different tasks involved in an architectural project, students will integrate the paradigms imposed by legal frameworks that shape architectural design and production. Through this process, they will build a ‘toolbox’ to support their professional actions.
The course aims to familiarize students with the systemic framework of architectural missions by identifying the key players and components, including: general legal principles, ordinal law, urbanistic law, real estate law, professional practice.

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

Specific Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Identify and understand the various legal, regulatory, and normative constraints applicable to urbanistic projects, including plans and draft allocation/orientation plans, urbanistic regulations, permits (urbanism, subdivision, derogation, regularization), and other requirements,
  • Analyze the parameters of a project program from a legal perspective,
  • Identify and understand the primary legal constraints affecting real estate projects,
  • Recognize and articulate the different levels of legal and ethical responsibility involved in an architectural project,
  • Apply a systemic approach to the art of building, identifying the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders in the professional context,
  • Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward the different parties involved in construction, including clients, contractors, neighboring property owners, and public authorities.
