Content
This course addresses current issues surrounding agriculture, food, the environment, and nature conservation in agricultural settings (GMOs, CAP, Green Deal, Nature Restoration Law, etc.). It will require students to take an active role in the form of presentations. The topics will change each year and will be chosen with the students from a list proposed by the students and teachers.
Teaching methods
Presentations by groups of four to five students on topics chosen from a list of subjects. The topics and group assignments will be decided during the first class.
Attendance at each class is mandatory.
Classes begin with a news briefing followed by presentations on the chosen topics.
Evaluation methods
The assessment will be based on three methods:
1. The first method is a multiple-choice questionnaire during the session, which will cover a list of concepts identified during the various presentations. This list will be provided to students at the end of the presentations but will not be formally defined; it is the students' responsibility to understand these concepts. (30%)
2. The second method is an open-ended question during the session that will cover a cross-cutting theme addressed in the various presentations. (20%)
3. The third method will be the evaluation of the group presentation given during one of the various sessions. This presentation will be evaluated on the following criteria: scientific rigor, highlighting of the arguments in the controversy, and the formal quality of the presentation. These three assessment elements will be supplemented by a Dynamo assessment of your work within the group giving the presentation. This Dynamo assessment, whether positive or negative, may result in penalty or bonus points being added to the final mark. (50%)
