Main themes
The objective of the course is to address freshwater biodiversity at the taxonomic (organism identification) and functional (position in communities and role of organisms in ecosystems) levels.
1. Introduction: forecasts, definitions, motivation of the course
2. Phytoplankton
3. Macro invertebrates
4. Ichthyological aspects

Content
Different applications will be considered through field and laboratory work :
* collection of micro and macroscopic algae in lakes and rivers, followed by identification in the laboratory; lectures will introduce the essential taxonomic notions and classifications into functional groups.
* collection of macroinvertebrates in rivers, identification, analysis of trophic guilds and biological traits.
* fish sampling in rivers and/or lakes : species identification, density and biomass estimates, analysis of factors determining the composition of communities.
The intervention of external experts will complement the training provided by the incumbents.
