The course covers various topics such as: reading Chinese legends, knowledge of Chinese culture and traditions, discovering historical sites and monuments, interviews, etc.

- Group discussion of everyday topics
- Reading authentic texts
- Reading aloud texts studied in class
- Extension of vocabulary of synonyms and antonyms
- Comprehension of a video conversation between Chinese people
- Creating short talks
- Learning Chinese games and songs
- Video-conference with Chinese people (if possible)

Content
The course aims to enable students to speak the Chinese language fluently and understand it well. It enables them to read texts on various subjects with the aid of a dictionary, and to write texts themselves.
In addition, the most important aspects of grammar and the grammatical and lexical particularities of Chinese are studied, enabling students to continue their study of the language autonomously after the course.

Teaching methods
The approach is varied: unseen texts, listening exercises, visual aids, recordings, videos etc.
Each lesson will have a theme, sometimes a very broad one, of Chinese culture, traditions, history, language, legends etc, and very specific points of grammar (time-measure complements, directional complements, correlative adverbs, passive particles, relative clauses, etc.)

- 50% oral,
- 50% written work.
- Active learning and memorization of Chinese characters has to be done at home.
Evaluation methods
1. Test Q1
4. Learners are required to attend the written AND oral evaluation test.

- Written (12 points): 3 online Unit quizzes + 1 written test at the end of Q1
- Oral (8 points): 2 in-class oral presentation on one of the given topics (10-15 min.)
- Written (12 points): 2 online unit quizzes + 1 written test at the end of Q2
- Oral (8 points): 2 in-class oral presentation on one of the given topics (15-20 min.)
4. Learners are required to attend the written AND oral evaluation test.
- If you are unable to take the Q1 tests on the scheduled dates for professional or medical reasons, please inform your teacher in writing as soon as possible, giving reasons for your absence. You will be invited to take an early test during the 13th week of Q1. If you are unavailable for the early test, your course will be considered incomplete.
- If you are unable to take the Q2 tests on the scheduled dates for professional or medical reasons, you will be invited to take a test during the first week of the 3rd exam session according to your request, you must send an email to xiaoxia.hao@uclouvain.be before May 31 to confirm your intention to take the exam in August. If you are unavailable for this test, your course will be considered incomplete.

- The course schedule will remain the same throughout the entire academic year.
- Non-UCL students who take the end-of-year exam may ask for an ILV certificate.
- HSK Level 4 of the "Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education" implemented on July 1st, 2021 .
