Content
The “Parcours Multimedia” course consists of a technical update for students in information and communication. This introductory course in multimedia design prepares students for the various practical exercises they will have to complete during their master's degree.
For each of the formats covered, a main exercise is assessed, possibly accompanied by additional preparatory exercises.
At the end of this course, students will be able to master the various fundamental technical operations required to produce a high-quality audio-visual script, i.e., the capture, processing, and layout of text, images, sound, and video on digital media.
Teaching methods
Lecture with presentation support accompanied by exercises to be carried out individually or in group.
Exercise instructions and feedback via the MoodleUCL course platform.
Evaluation methods
This course is evaluated on an ongoing basis during the first quarter. During the term, students will be required to produce a number of assignments, 3 of which will be assessed. Each assignment is due by a specific date.
Only files submitted via Moodle will be graded; assignments submitted by other means will be considered not submitted. Video files must be playable in Quicktime or VLC with the usual plugins; unplayable files will be considered not submitted.
Each exercise is assessed according to a "scale" indicating its quality in relation to the standards expected in a professional environment:
  • A means that the work would be publishable as is (16+),
  • B means that it would be publishable with minor modifications (13-15),
  • C means that it could not be published without substantial revision (10-12),
  • D that it would have to be completely redone (1-9),
  • E that it is not readable, late or not submitted (0).
This assessment is complemented by a short explanatory comment.
At the end of the term, these lettered assessments, which conceal a numerical grade, are integrated into a global grade which is the student's grade out of 20.
At the end of the four-month term, the numerical grades are combined into an overall grade out of 20.
If a student fails to complete at least two of the three assignments that are subject to assessment within the specified time frame, they will receive a grade of absence ("A") for the entire course.
Second session procedure
If a student fails the first session, several situations are possible:
  • If the student has obtained more than 10/20 in an assignment (assessments A, B, or C), the assignment cannot be retaken.
  • If the student has obtained a D or an E, the assignment must be (re)taken.
Other information
This course assumes that students are familiar with the use of a computer and its operating system, as well as common browsing tools and basic office software (email manager, word processor, spreadsheet, etc.).
The guidelines for the responsible use of AI approved by the ESPO Faculty Board on July 1, 2024 apply to this course.
Without prejudice to the provisions of this note, and unless otherwise specified in the course in relation to a specific exercise, the use of automatic content generation tools (text, image, video) is strictly prohibited and will result in a T grade (for cheating, equivalent to 0) for the work concerned.
In the event of suspected illegal use of AI, a clarification meeting will be organized with the student.
