The course requires a good understanding of European public policy and an understanding of sustainability issues. Students are required to attend the course, as participation is compulsory.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 The lectures purpose is to assess the ways in which the EC lawmaker has been enhancing the status of environmental and health protection.
 
Content
The course begins by examining the powers conferred by the treaties to the European Union to promote the sustainability of its economy. These powers include environmental policy, internal market policy, energy policy and the common agricultural policy. The political issues underlying these powers are explained.
The course then moves on to the new directives and regulations adopted between 2021 and 2024 as part of the European Green Deal. These regulations cover green energy, sustainable transport, sustainable agriculture, zero pollution, nature conservation, strategic autonomy in terms of critical resources, the circular economy, etc.
The course is based on academic articles and chapters written by the lecturer, as well as PowerPoint presentations.

Speakers will be invited to address specific issues.
Evaluation methods
Students' skills are assessed on the basis of their participation in the course of the lectures (20%) and their ability to structure, summarise, synthetize, argue and present theses during a four-hour debate at the end of the semester. This will focus on the subject matter taught during the course.
