Prerequisites
To enroll in this Teaching Unit, the student must also be registered for the Teaching Unit LEISS2902: Introduction to Research in Education (S4) and the Teaching Unit LFILO2911: Thesis Support Seminar.
Main themes
Pursuant to Decree 2021, Article 24, §3, “the final thesis is structured around at least two of the training axes defined in the previous paragraph, including the axis of training in and through research in education and didactics.” §4 specifies that the final thesis must be “linked to an action research or collaborative research process.”
A thesis vade mecum will be presented during the Teaching Unit LFILO2911 – Thesis Support Seminar.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  1. Conduct original scientific research integrating various elements of their training;
  2. Rely on scientific literature to formulate and address a research question;
  3. Relate scientific literature to professional situations and practices;
  4. Rigorously implement one or more research methods (interviews, surveys, didactic assessments, experimental situations, observations, etc.), depending on the type of thesis chosen;
  5. Discuss the ethical issues related to the research topic and approach.
With regard to the learning outcomes (LOs) of the Master's program in Teaching Philosophy and Citizenship, this teaching unit contributes to the development and acquisition of the following learning outcomes:
LO3. The competencies of the learning organizer and facilitator within an evolving dynamic.
LO3.1. Master disciplinary content, its epistemological foundations, its scientific and technological evolution, its didactics, and the methodology of its teaching;
LO3.2. Master knowledge related to learning processes and research on different teaching models and theories;
LO3.3. Master written and spoken French at an advanced level to teach and communicate effectively in the various contexts and disciplines related to the profession.
LO4. The competencies of the reflective practitioner.
LO4.1. Critically read scientific research findings in education and didactics, draw on them for teaching practice, and rely on various social sciences disciplines to analyze and act in professional situations;
LO4.2. Conduct, individually and with peers, critical and rigorous observation and analysis of their own practices and their impact on students in order to adjust teaching and improve strategies and implementation conditions for greater effectiveness and equity.
