At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Define the various institutions of Ancien Régime and their remit
 
2 Describe the interlocking between multiple powers
 
3 Comment on the sources coming from those institutions
 
Content
The course will focus on the Netherlands in the 16th century. It will examine certain links in the chain of power and the documentation associated with them, whether political, religious or military institutions. From the governess to the executioner, from the Archbishop of Mechelen to the official, from the captain general to the mutinous soldier, various portraits accompanied by documents will illustrate the mechanisms of decision-making
