Main themes
  • Revising basic skills in the context of communicative activities;
  • developing more complex functions such as expressing opinions and hypothesis;
  • improving both individual and interactive communicative skills;
  • developing listening comprehension skills.
Content
During the first weeks of the course the most important structures and functions of the language are soundly revised in the context of communicative activities. Subsequently, more complex structures and functions are presented (such as, for instance, the expression of personal opinions). Informations on italian culture and/or current events will be integrated in the material.
Teaching methods
The most common activities in the classroom are: exercises in the language lab, listening comprehension activities (by means of audio and video material), reading comprehension activities, drills, conversation in pairs or small groups, simple role plays etc. Individual portfolio activities will be requested (language activities chosen by the student and approuved by the teacher, to be performed outside the course timetable, such as language tandem, films or tv-series, books, newspaper articles etc.).
Evaluation methods
The first term assessment includes :
  1. a written test on the main language elements covered during the first term;
  2. oral interaction activities in class and during the course – starting from October;
  3. the presentation of the individual Language Portfolio.
Point distribution: 1/3 for the written test, 1/3 for oral interactions during the course, 1/3 for the composition and presentation of the Portfolio.
The Portfolio must include the results of an etymological research project on at least 3 Italian words, approved by the teacher.
The assessment during the third exam session also includes:
  1. a written part – covering the main language elements studied during the course;
  2. an oral part – related to the Portfolio composed by the student;
  3. To assess the student's interaction skills, the Portfolio will be the subject of a conversation with the teacher, based on the student's oral presentation and the written file, which must be submitted to the teacher at least 48 hours before the exam.
Point distribution for the third session:
1/3 for the written test, 1/3 for the oral interaction, 1/3 for the composition and presentation of the Portfolio.
Formative assessments can take place during the course. Their results will not affect the final score.
NB: AI tools can be used responsibly to prepare for the oral/written parts of the evaluation. Significant or unreported use of these tools will be considered unfavorably in the evaluation.
