This teaching unit is the continuation of the teaching unit LNEER1212 and as such requires that the student has reached the level B1+ of the 'Common European Framework of Reference for Languages'.
Main themes
The topics that will be treated in the classroom are related to the field of study of the students.

At the end of this teaching unit  the student will be able  to use Dutch in the specific context of his study domain and his professional future and to communicate in Dutch in a formal and informal way at a final level of
B2 of the 'Common European Framework of Reference for Languages'
 
Content
The course is mainly based on interactive communication.
The in-class activities are aimed at developing the capacity to use Dutch in the context of the future professional life of the student, but also to communicate in everyday situations.
The student will also realize written exercises that must be sent to the teacher for correction and commentary.
Teaching methods
Training staff
  • Lessons in groups of 15-20 students.
  • The teacher is available during his office-hour(s) and can be contacted by e-mail.
  • Workload:
    • Classroom hours: 30h.
    • Self-study: 42h.
Interaction with fellow students on recent news items on new discoveries in the field of interest.Interaction integrating every day vocabulary and progressively vocabulary specific to the field of study of the students.
When necessary (frequent mistakes or on demand), rapid explanation of the grammar items that raise problems. Writing tasks.
 
Evaluation methods
Face-to-face lessons (if the health situation allows it)
1. Continuous assessment on the basis of written work, oral presentations, written vocabulary test(s) and active participation (2 points for written work, 4 points for presentations, 4 points for the vocabulary test(s), 2 points for active participation in lessons).
2. Oral examination (8 points) during the last week of the term based on a portfolio of articles put together by the student and related to the fields of study, and a direct and spontaneous exchange with the teacher on the student's speciality, professional projects, etc.
These modalities could be transposed to distance learning and distance written/oral tests depending on the health situation.
In the September session, the student must retake all assignments, presentations and (written/oral) tests.
Important Notes
  • All evaluation components are compulsory. However:
    • An absence without an official justification from a continuous assessment test (tests, or presentations) will result in a 0 for that test.
    • An absence from a written exam and/or the oral exam will result in a grade of “absent” for the entire evaluation. The student will then be prohibited from registering for the other parts of the assessment.
  • Regarding requests for a certificate of attendance, only those submitted via the student’s virtual office will be taken into account.
    • A request for a certificate of attendance in December results in a zero for the entire Q1 evaluation; the student cannot take it in Q2.
  • In case of a justified absence (e.g. illness) from one of the exams, the medical certificate must be sent to the chair of the examination board, to the faculty secretariat, with the professor and course coordinator in copy.
Article 103
Any student registered for exams who is unable to attend one or more of them must immediately notify the chair of the examination board and the faculty administration of the reason for their absence. At the latest the day after the impediment ends, the student must provide the faculty administration with the original supporting documents, i.e. a medical certificate or any other document, the probative value of which is left to the sovereign appreciation of the chair of the examination board.
Reminder: In case of absence, even if justified, the exam cannot be rescheduled during the same session.
Indeed, according to the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations of UCLouvain, the possibility of retaking an exam later during the session in case of justified absence is only considered if it is impossible to present that exam in a later session of the same academic year.
Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence
Generative AI must be used responsibly and in line with the principles of academic and scientific integrity. Since scientific integrity requires citing sources, any use of AI must always be declared. The use of AI tools during tests and exams for LNEER1313 is strictly forbidden and will be considered cheating.
