Evaluation methods
Attendance at this language course is required. In accordance with article 72 of the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations, the teacher may propose to the jury that a student who has two unjustified absences for the course be refused registration for the January, June or September session.
January/June exam
A. Continuous assessment (70%) : During the term, students will be required to complete a number of tasks.
-Task 1: Reconstruction of a crime - individual assignment (2/20)
-Task 2: Presentation and personal reflection on a podcast/video of ‘De Universiteit van Vlaanderen / De Universiteit van Nederland’ on a criminological topic (choice from a series of videos on Moodle) - assignment per two students (3/20)
There will also be 4 tests on vocabulary and grammar (4 tests of 1/20 each) and one test on written expression, reading comprehension and listening comprehension (1 test of 5/20)
B. Oral exam (30%) : Exam per two students. Discussion about the themes seen during the semester and a telephone conversation.
September exam
Same modalities as in January/June.
- Students who fail the individual oral examination during the first session will have to retake this component during the second session (August-September).
- Students who obtained more than ≥6/12 for the permanent evaluation tasks during the first session will retain their marks in the second session.
- Students who obtained less than <6/12 for the permanent evaluation tasks during the first session must retake those tasks for which they received a failing grade. The five written tests will not be organised separately again. If a student fails the “written tests for permanent evaluation” block, they must take a written test in August/September, which counts for 9/20.
Students who have not attended the course during the term will be required to take all the tests of the term. He/she will also be required to watch 4 compulsory videos, summarize them and comment on them orally. He/she will then take the oral exam itself. In this case, the points are distributed as follows: task 1 (2/20), task 2 (3/20), oral examination (7/20) and written test (8/20).
! The evaluation modalities may be subject to change in accordance with the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic. The students will of course be notified of these possible changes in due course.
All assessment components are compulsory. However, absence (without official justification) from a permanent evaluation test or presentation will result in a mark of “0” for that test or presentation; absence from the oral examination will result in a mark of absence for the entire assessment and the student will therefore be prohibited from registering for the other parts of the evaluation.
In the event of a justified absence on the day of the oral examination (e.g. due to illness), the certificate must be sent to the chair of the examination board, to the faculty secretariat, with a copy to the professor and course coordinator.
Article 103. – Any student registered for examinations who is unable to attend one or more of them must notify the chair of the examination board and the faculty administration of the reason for their absence without delay. No later than the day after the end of the impediment, they shall submit to the faculty administration the original supporting documents, i.e. a medical certificate or any other document whose probative value is left to the sole discretion of the chair of the examination board. However, if this day is a Saturday, Sunday, 27 September or a public holiday, the day on which the documents are submitted is postponed to the next day that is not one of these.
We remind you that in the event of absence, even if justified, from an examination, you will not be able to take this examination on another date during the session.
The possibility of retaking an exam at a later date during the session in the event of a justified absence is not possible, in accordance with the General Regulations for Studies and Exams at UCLouvain (https://cdn.uclouvain.be/ groups/cms-editors-cvrc/reglements/RGEE_2024-2025_VF.pdf), unless it is not possible to take the exam on another date during the academic year for justified reasons.
If you wish to obtain an attendance record for an examination, you must request it via your virtual office.
