Issues related to neuropsychological diagnosis and rehabilitation in relation to memory deficits, attentional and executive function deficits, social cognition deficits and perception and action deficits.
Special emphasis is put on issues which allow (1) choosing adequate diagnostic tools, (2) critically interpreting a patient's profile in relation to theoretical models, (3) writing a neuropsychological report and (4) identifying the relevant type of intervention for a given patient as well as the means to verify the effectiveness of the intervention.

At the end of this teaching unit, the student will be able to: - Analyze the profile of performance of a patient on classic neuropsychological tests in relation to a cognition model (A1 and A2) - Present the results of neuropsychological tests in a neuropsychological report by following the conventional writing format (C1 and C2) - Propose intervention options which are in line with the patient's profile (B1 and secondarily B2 and B3) In addition, group work on a clinical vignette and the administration of neuropsychological tests will reinforce the following competences: - Interacting efficiently with peers (D1, D2, D3) - Acting as a university psychologist in a rigorous, deontological and ethical manner (E1, E2, E3) Finally, self-learning opportunities will allow the student to assess and increase his/her professionalism and competences (F1 and F2). |
Content
The course is organized around three modules:
Module 1: Introduction to neuropsychological evaluation and rehabilitation. This module introduces the different components of neuropsychological evaluation and rehabilitation. The module includes a familiarization with various neuropsychological rehabilitation techniques.
Module 2: Neuropsychological test administration and correction. This module presents the different components of a neuropsychological assessment and familiarizes the student with the administration and correction of classic neuropsychological tests.
Module 3. Neuropsychological test interpretation. This module familiarizes the student with the interpretation of classic neuropsychological test results.

Teaching methods
Module 1: Activities include lecture sessions and group coursework in which students apply concepts seen in class in terms of evaluation and intervention.
Modules 2 and 3: Activities include group sessions and self-study materials and exercises to get hands-on experience in test administration, correction and interpretation.

Evaluation methods
Continuous evaluation:
(A) Demonstration of the ability to administer and correct neuropsychological tests during a practical session. This part is worth 20% of the global mark and assesses the learning outcomes related to module 2.
(B) Two written group works on the neuropsychological assessment and the intervention objectives as well as an oral presentation in a group with written support of a neuropsychological rehabilitation technique. This part (the 3 group works) is worth 40% of the global mark and assesses the learning outcomes related to module 1.
Evaluation in the first exam session:
(C) Written examination (multiple response questions) on the interpretation of neuropsychological test results. This part is worth 40% of the global mark and assesses the learning outcomes related to module 3.
The global mark is made up of the combined marks for the three parts of the course. This global mark is the weighted average of marks A, B and C.

Other information
The course is based on concepts seen in the following Bloc 3 module: LPSP1327 Clinical Neuropsychogy. The content of this module is made available as in self-learning mode on Moodle for students who have not taken that module in their program.

- The course is given in French. There are no English slides available for international students
- The core reading for the course is in French, with no equivalent core reading available for international students in English. The psychometric tests are in French but many rehabilitation articles referred to are in English.
- The standard examination for Module 3 is a written exam in French. International students may request to have an English version of the exam. This request must be submitted to the course instructors before December 1st.
- Modules 1 and 2 requires coursework in French. However, international students may present the oral components of the work in English.
